ABOUT OUR SAUNA

Enjoy an incredible sweat session in our Vitality Sauna, a low EMF, far infrared sauna that is designed to warm your body to the deepest tissues, from the inside out. The ambient room temperature is much lower (ranging from 45-65 degrees celsius) than the traditional Finnish/Swedish saunas (wet saunas at 80-90 degrees celsius) and is a dry-heat, meaning it does not trigger asthma, claustrophobia or difficulty breathing.  This allows for a more comfortable experience, where you can truly relax and enjoy being in the heat. Plus, you can also stay in Infrared Sauna for longer than the wet sauna! At The Light Room, we recommend doing rounds of hot and cold, 20-25 mins in the sauna, and popping out for a cold plunge for anywhere from 1-10 mins, drying off a little, and popping back in the sauna for round two.

The health benefits Infrared Saunas have been studied extensively in more recent years, with the main benefits being:

  • Boosts immune system response

  • Increases cardiovascular health

  • Protects against neuro-degenerative diseases (alzheimers and dementia for example)

  • Supports detoxification of the body

  • Lowers oxidative stress markers in the body

  • Boosts recovery after exercise/sports/physical exertion

  • Provides acute pain relief

  • Improves mood

  • Supports body’s ability to relax (which has a direct flow-on effect on sleep)

As well as this, the sauna provides some time away from phones, screens, alarm clocks and other modern distractions, which is a huge plus in this over-stimulating world!

CONTRAST THERAPY

The act of going from hot to cold temperatures, multiple times in order to exercise greater control over the body's stress response.

In the modern world, we are more stressed than ever! Many of us struggle to ‘switch off’ at the end of the day, which affects our ability to sleep, heal and recover as we rest. As well as this, the longer we live in a state of chronic (ongoing) stress, the more damage we are doing to our body. Excess cortisol (stress hormone) has an eroding effect on our bodies tissues. In this time of pandemic and cost of living related stressors, it is more important than ever that we make time to ‘switch off’ from these worldly stressors and come back to a grounded, regulated state.

Sauna and cold plunge have been found to regulate the nervous system, providing a complete reset for the body, mind and emotions.

Contrast therapy has the power to help individuals take their health into their own hands and create a life of greater balance, calm and space to process the highs and lows life throws at us!

The Light Room is a space that is here to support everyday people cope with the stressors of life, better.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • At The Light Room, we recommend doing rounds of hot and cold, 20-25 mins in the sauna, and popping out for a cold plunge for anywhere from 1-10 mins, drying off a little, and popping back in the sauna for round two.

If you’re a total beginner, it is not recommended to stay in the cold water for longer than 10 minutes. If you have been doing regular cold showers, winter swimming and or ice baths, you will be more equipped to stay a little longer should you feel to!

At this stage the cold plunge here at The Light Room is not cooled down, so therefore it will be roughly the same temperature as the ocean (if that helps to prepare your mind for your experience!).

It is recommended that when you get into the plunge, take about 5-10 deep breaths to allow your body to acclimatise to the cold. Making your exhale longer than your inhale will ensure your body can relax through the first wave of the cold sensation.

  • Those with high or low blood pressure, heart issues, sensitive vision, asthma - dizziness, blood thinning medications, pacemaker, joint injury (within 48 hours of injuring), fever, pregnancy and any other chronic health conditions should consult with their medical provider before attempting contrast therapy.
